Field Study on Rural Women and Local Economy in Yefren, Jadu, and Rahibat

The Nana Maren NGO, in collaboration with UN Women in Libya, presents this field study on the economic participation of women in rural Libyan areas. The study aims to gather data and analyze the current economic status of women, entrepreneurship opportunities, challenges they face, and proposed solutions to enhance their economic participation.

Study Methodology and Target Groups

The study targeted women from various age groups (18 – 55 years), with the largest group being young women (25 – 35 years), accounting for 38%. This reflects a growing interest among young women in entrepreneurship and ambition for economic independence.

Key Findings of the Study

  • 58% of participants are unmarried, and 36% are married, highlighting the delayed marriage age due to the economic challenges faced by the country.
  • Many women rely on themselves for a steady income rather than viewing marriage as the primary means of economic stability.
  • There is growing awareness among women about the importance of financial independence and entrepreneurship as a means of self-development and economic growth.

Importance and Impact of the Study

This study helps to paint a clear picture of the reality of rural women in Libya and provides recommendations to enhance women’s economic participation through policies and programs that support female entrepreneurship in rural areas.
