On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, a passionate meeting took place between Her Excellency the Minister of State for Women’s Affairs, Dr. Houria Al-Tarmal, and the Libyan Women for Peace and Security Network (a group of civil society leaders), aimed at enhancing the role of women in peace and national reconciliation.
The meeting began with opening remarks from the President of the Nana Maren Association and a member of the Policy Development Committee at the Ministry of State for Women’s Affairs, followed by a speech from the Minister of State herself.
The meeting was held inside the Prime Minister’s office and brought together a group of women from civil society organizations across Libya.
During the meeting, the role of women in achieving security and peace, as well as strengthening the foundations of national reconciliation, was discussed. The network presented its vision and objectives, alongside success stories achieved through its initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability. The discussion covered issues related to Libyan women concerned with peace, explored the current crisis in-depth, and presented views and proposals to empower women to provide the necessary support to their communities and enhance their partnership with men in the responsibility of achieving civil peace.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Her Excellency confirmed the Ministry’s readiness to support the network’s efforts by opening communication channels with reconciliation bodies and state institutions across Libya, emphasizing that this commitment reflects our shared aspirations toward establishing lasting and sustainable peace in Libya.
